Chambered body

A solid-bodied guitar whose interior has been routed out with one or more shaped cavities to remove weight and let the box resonate a little.

Unlike weight relief, where small holes are drilled purely to lighten the slab, chambering leaves larger connected spaces, so the body is still structurally solid but has some of the voice of a hollow instrument: a warmer, slightly more open low end and a more complex decay. The maker can also tune the size and position of the chambers, which is why chambered designs are often described as sitting between solid and semi-hollow. Feedback resistance remains far better than a true hollowbody.

Example: a chambered single-cut of the same shape and pickups as a solid one will sound a little woodier and lighter on the shoulder, without howling at stage volume.
