EQ pedal

A pedal that boosts or cuts selected frequency bands before the signal reaches the amplifier.

The simplest form is a single tone or tilt control, but a graphic or parametric equaliser with several bands lets the player sculpt what the amp receives: cutting the low end tightens a muddy overdrive, a midrange boost pushes a solo forward, and a high cut removes ice-pick brightness. Because it sits before the gain stages, it changes how the amp distorts and not just the final tone, which is why the same settings sound different in front of two amplifiers. It is also the standard tool for fixing a weak pickup or a dark room.

Example: a midrange boost with the low end trimmed is the usual way to make a neck humbucker cut through a loud band.
