Kahler

A brand of tremolo bridge that uses a cam and roller system rather than a knife-edge pivot, known for a smooth, long throw and adjustable feel.

Rather than resting on two pivot points, the Kahler design moves on rollers and a cam, which lets the player change the bar's tension and travel and gives an even response through a deep dive. It can also be locked so the bridge behaves like a fixed one, which is useful for players who want a tremolo only occasionally. It appeared widely on 1980s instruments alongside the other well-known double-locking system.

Example: a player who does occasional dive bombs but needs rock-solid tuning for most of a set can lock the bridge between songs.
