Lemon oil
A light oil, usually petroleum-based with a lemon scent rather than pressed from lemons, used to clean and condition an unfinished fingerboard.
Its job is to lift grime out of the grain and to slow the drying that an unfinished board experiences in a dry room, without leaving a sticky film. It is not a finish and not a polish: maple boards are usually lacquered and should not be oiled at all, and using too much on an open-grained board can darken the wood and make it feel greasy. It is a maintenance product rather than a repair product, and it will not revive a worn or grooved board.
Example: a rosewood fingerboard that has gone grey and dry in winter usually comes back with a light application and a rub down.
