Neck profile
The cross-sectional shape of the back of the neck, described by how full, thin, round or V-shaped it is.
It matters more to comfort and stamina than any other specification, because the thumb and palm rest against it continuously, and players form strong preferences for the shallow, wide shape of a modern shred neck or the fuller C shape of a vintage instrument. Measurements are usually given as thickness at the first and twelfth frets plus a description of the shoulder shape, but the same figures can feel quite different if the taper differs. A neck can also be reshaped, though only by removing material.
Example: a player with small hands may find a slim, wide profile lets them barre chords comfortably where a chunky one tires the hand.
