Pedalboard
A flat surface with a power supply and cable routing, on which pedals are mounted so the whole chain can be carried as one unit.
Its real value is logistics: everything is connected, powered and in a fixed order, so setup is a single case, a single cable to the guitar and one to the amp, and the same settings arrive at every gig. Boards also protect the pedals, keep the cable runs short and let the player mount a supply underneath. Angles, sizes and layouts vary, and the constraint is usually weight and how much current the supply can deliver.
Example: a player who carries a board with the chain already wired can be playing two minutes after arriving at a venue.
