String height
The distance from the top of a fret to the underside of a string, measured at a nominated fret and used as the objective figure for action.
Numbers are quoted at the twelfth fret in most cases, and they are compared from the top of the fret rather than the fingerboard surface, which is why a measurement is only meaningful if the reference point is stated. Height is the result of relief, nut depth, fret condition and bridge adjustment all together, so it is the final check rather than a setting in itself. Players differ widely on what they want here.
Example: measuring string height at the twelfth fret on each string is how a setup is documented so it can be repeated.
