Transposition
Moving music from one key to another, keeping every interval relationship the same.
Transposition preserves the shape of the music while changing the pitches, which is what a capo does mechanically on a guitar and what a singer does imperceptibly when a song sits too high or too low. Because the intervals stay constant, the chord progression sounds identical in character after transposition, only higher or lower. Players who think in scale degrees find transposing easy, while those who memorised shapes can struggle when a song moves out of the familiar keys.
Example: Playing a song in A with the same shape moved two frets up to play it in B is transposition.
