Truss rod cover

The small plate, usually plastic or metal, that covers the truss rod access hole at the headstock or the body end of the neck.

Its practical job is to keep dust and moisture out of the cavity and to hide the adjustment nut, and its cosmetic job is to carry a brand name. On many guitars it is simply removed with one or two small screws when the neck needs adjusting, which is why it is one of the parts most often lost or misplaced. Some designs use a slotted hole that allows access without removing anything.

Example: adjusting neck relief begins with removing the truss rod cover, which on most designs is held by two small screws.
