Uni-vibe
A modulation effect that combines a phaser-like sweep with a gentle amplitude wobble, producing a swirling, rotating chorus.
The original unit used a lamp and photocells to modulate the signal, and that optical stage is the reason for its thick, organic, slightly unpredictable sweep, which is warmer and less obviously electronic than a modern phaser. It is the sound of a great deal of late sixties and seventies guitar, and it sits in a middle ground between chorus and phaser that no single effect quite reproduces. Most modern versions are analogue or digital emulations of the same circuit.
Example: A slow, engulfing swirl on a sustained chord that is neither chorus nor phaser but somewhere between the two may be a uni-vibe.
