Desiccant
A material that absorbs moisture from the air, used to dry out a case or a storage space that is too humid.
Where a humidifier adds water, a desiccant removes it, which is what an instrument needs in a tropical climate or after it has been soaked. Silica gel in a sachet is the common form, and it is reusable after being dried in an oven. Over-drying is as harmful as over-wetting, since it causes exactly the shrinkage problems a humidifier is used to prevent, so a desiccant should be used with a hygrometer to check the result.
Example: A guitar case stored in a damp climate containing a sachet of silica gel is being protected by a desiccant.
