Looper pedal
A pedal that records a passage played on the guitar and then repeats it, so the player can layer parts over it in real time.
A looper is the modern practice and performance tool: one phrase is recorded, and the pedal plays it back on a loop while the player adds a bass line, a rhythm part, an overdubbed harmony or a solo. The skill lies in getting the loop length exactly right so the timing does not drift, which is why most units offer quantising to a click or to the first pass. Many units also let loops be stored, reversed or layered, which turns a single guitarist into an arrangement.
Example: A solo performer who records a chord progression, then solos over it live, is using a looper pedal.
