String winder
A hand tool with a crank and a socket that fits over a tuning button, used to wind strings on and off quickly.
Winding a string by hand takes many turns of the tuning button, which is slow and hard on the fingers, and a winder reduces it to a few seconds. Better versions combine the socket with a bridge pin puller, which makes an acoustic restring a much simpler job. The main caution is that a winder pulls the string onto the post without any feel for tension, so the player should slow down well before the string comes up to pitch.
Example: A plastic crank tool used to spin the tuners while restringing a guitar is a string winder.
