Tuner
A device that displays the pitch of a played note so the player can bring each string to its correct tuning.
Modern units are either clip-on devices that read the instrument's vibration, pedal units that sit in the signal chain, or apps and rack units, and most offer a chromatic mode plus a reference frequency that can be shifted to match a piano or another instrument. The practical differences are speed of response, accuracy, and whether a pedal's output mutes when it is engaged so the audience hears nothing during tuning. Accuracy of a few cents is enough for normal playing.
Example: a pedal tuner that mutes its output lets a player tune silently between songs while the band continues.
