XLR output
A balanced output on a guitar or its electronics that carries the signal on three contacts, letting it travel long distances without picking up noise.
It is used where the guitar is going straight to a mixing desk or a stage box over a long run, which a normal guitar cable cannot manage cleanly. Some instruments and preamps offer it alongside a regular jack, and signal can then be sent balanced to the front of house while an unbalanced feed goes to a local amplifier. The connector also carries phantom power in some designs, which can run the preamp.
Example: an acoustic guitar with an XLR output can be run fifty metres to a console without the hum that a jack cable would collect.
