Bus
A signal path that combines several channels so they can be processed and controlled together.
A bus is an internal highway inside a mixer or digital workstation: routing six guitar tracks to one bus means their combined level can be raised, compressed or effected with a single set of controls. Buses also carry effects, with a reverb sitting on its own bus and being fed from any channel that needs it. Understanding buses is what turns a recording from a pile of tracks into a structured mix.
Example: Sending all the rhythm guitar tracks to a single compressor rather than processing each one separately uses a bus.
