Kill dry
A setting that removes the unprocessed signal from a pedal's output, leaving only the effect.
Most delay and reverb pedals mix the dry signal with their effect so the guitar is still heard when they are engaged, and kill dry removes that dry path entirely. It is used when the pedal sits in a parallel loop or a wet-dry rig and the dry sound is already present elsewhere, so leaving it in would make the guitar louder and double up the signal. In a normal series chain, engaging kill dry makes the instrument silent between echoes, which is occasionally useful for texture and usually surprising.
Example: A delay pedal set to output only its repeats, used in a rig where the dry guitar comes from a separate path, is running kill dry.
