Fender Electric Mandolin
The Fender Electric Mandolin is a solid-body electric mandolin Fender produced from the 1950s, sometimes called the Mandocaster. It follows the outline and construction of the company's electric guitars scaled down to mandolin size, with four strings rather than the eight of an acoustic mandolin, a single pickup on many examples and a compact, contoured body with a bolt-on neck. It was intended for players who needed a mandolin that could be heard in an amplified band, and it is used today in country, western swing and rock settings where an acoustic instrument would be lost.
