Fender Vibratone

The Fender Vibratone is a rotating speaker cabinet Fender sold in the late 1960s and 1970s. Inside the cabinet a single drum-shaped rotor turns in front of a stationary speaker, so the sound is thrown around the room and its pitch and volume waver slightly, which produces the swirling, Doppler-like effect associated with the Leslie cabinets used with electric organs. Guitarists adopted it for the same reason, connecting it to their amplifier, and it is heard on many recordings of the period. It is a heavy, mechanical device, and it is now collected by players who want that sound.
