My Guitar Notes

Gretsch Country Gentleman

The Gretsch Country Gentleman is a hollow-body electric guitar developed in the early 1960s with the American guitarist Chet Atkins, and it succeeded the earlier 6120 in his endorsement. It is a large single-cutaway instrument with a laminated maple body, two filter-style pickups, a tone switch and master volume on the upper bout, and a distinctive control arrangement offering several preset sounds, and it appeared in both single and double-cutaway forms over the years. Its clean, articulate and slightly twangy voice suits country and rock alike, and it is remembered for its association with the Beatles' early recordings.
