My Guitar Notes

Nocaster

The Nocaster is a Fender guitar from the period in 1950 and 1951 when the company had to stop using the Broadcaster name after an objection from another maker but had not yet settled on Telecaster. Guitars supplied in that interval were sent out with the model name removed from the headstock decal, leaving only the Fender logo, and collectors and players eventually gave these instruments the nickname Nocaster because of the missing word. Only a small number were made, so they are rare and valuable, and Fender has since used the name for Custom Shop models built to that specification.
