P-90
The P-90 is a single-coil guitar pickup designed by Gibson and introduced in the middle of the 1940s. Its two coils share a set of six adjustable screw pole pieces and a pair of bar magnets beneath, an arrangement that gives a fuller, louder and more midrange-heavy sound than the earlier and smaller single coils, with a good deal of bite when the strings are driven hard. It was fitted to a large part of Gibson's output in the 1950s, including the Les Paul Junior and Special and many archtops, and it remains in production and much imitated, from versions with hum cancelling constructions to modern reproductions.
