Pedabro
The Pedabro is a custom-built instrument combining a pedal steel guitar with the resonator construction used in Dobro-style guitars: instead of the usual pickup and wooden body, the strings drive one or more spun metal cones set into the body, which give a loud, metallic and very distinctive tone. It is played with the bar and pedals of a steel guitar, so the player can slide between pitches and change the tuning of individual strings by foot, but it sounds unlike a conventional steel. Such instruments are built to order in small numbers, and they are associated with the American steel player Paul Franklin.
