SynthAxe
The SynthAxe is a guitar-like instrument introduced in the middle of the 1980s, built to control synthesizers rather than to sound by itself. It has a body held in the manner of a guitar with two groups of strings, one plucked by the right hand and a second set used purely to sense the player's fingering, and the information it gathers is converted into control data for external sound generators, with pressure and bend sensors on the neck. It was expensive and produced in small numbers, and it is closely associated with the playing of Allan Holdsworth, who used it extensively.
