Yamaha RM1x
The Yamaha RM1x is a sequencer and groovebox introduced at the end of the 1990s. It contains a set of synthesised sounds and drum kits, and it is built around a pattern-based method of composition in which short repeated parts are recorded and then chained into a complete arrangement, with controls for editing the sounds and a display for navigating the material. Instruments of this kind allowed complete electronic pieces to be written and performed from one unit without a computer, and they were widely used in dance music production of the period.
