Yamaha TX series
The Yamaha TX series is a family of rack-mounted tone modules the company produced in the 1980s. Instruments in the series contain the synthesis engine of its keyboard synthesizers in a compact unit without keys, controlled over MIDI from an external keyboard, a computer or a sequencer, and they were used by musicians who wanted the sounds of the period's instruments without another keyboard on the stand. Units of this kind became common as studios and stages filled with keyboards, and the TX modules are remembered for putting the company's frequency modulation synthesis into a small and inexpensive box.
