Z.Vex Fuzz Factory
The Z.Vex Fuzz Factory is a compact fuzz pedal introduced by the American maker Z.Vex in the middle of the 1990s. It uses germanium transistors and, unusually for a fuzz, gives the player control over the circuit's operating conditions rather than only over the amount of gain: alongside volume and drive, its controls set the compression, the bias of the transistors and the stability of the circuit, so that it can be made to spit, squeal, gate abruptly or produce the oscillating tones that have made it a favourite among players who want deliberately unpredictable sounds, and it is widely used in modern alternative rock.
