Capo (under Tunings)

Capo is not a topic of its own on this site. It is a short utility under Tunings: a clamp that raises open shapes without retuning.

A capo presses all six strings at one fret. Every open string rises by the same amount, so familiar shapes keep their fingering and change their names. The shape key is the target key counted that many frets lower. Use it when you want open voicings in another key between songs; it is not a tuning change, because the intervals between the strings stay the same.
