Parallel effects loop

An effects loop that splits the signal, sending one path through the effects and leaving the other dry, then mixing the two back together.

A parallel loop keeps the original signal intact and adds the processed version alongside it, so a delay or reverb can sit behind the dry sound rather than replacing it. It suits time-based effects that work best blended, and it avoids the problem of a digital pedal dulling the direct signal. The trade-off is that the wet and dry levels have to be balanced, and effects that rely on being the only thing in the path, such as an EQ or a boost, behave differently.

Example: An amplifier whose delay pedal is mixed in alongside the untouched signal rather than replacing it uses a parallel effects loop.
