Danelectro Amp-in-case
The Danelectro Amp-in-case was a 1950s idea that solved a practical problem: instead of carrying a guitar and an amplifier separately, the amplifier was built into the guitar's carrying case itself. Danelectro sold its early guitars with such cases, so a beginner could buy one item and have a complete electric setup with a small valve amplifier inside the lid. The instruments had Masonite bodies, unusual pickups and were inexpensive, sold through catalogue retailers rather than music shops. The arrangement was a landmark in making electric guitar playing affordable after the Second World War.
