Danelectro Shorthorn
The Danelectro Shorthorn is the line of guitars and basses that made up the core of Danelectro's first era. Where the Longhorn has extended horns, the Shorthorn keeps them short and the body compact, giving the slab-like, slightly awkward outline associated with the company, with the guitar held together by a simple frame, a Masonite skin and a pair of lipstick-tube pickups. Offered in six-string guitar form and as a baritone instrument, the Shorthorn was sold cheaply through mail-order catalogues. That combination of low cost and distinctive tone made it a staple of early rock and roll and later a studio favourite.
