My Guitar Notes

Danelectro U2

The Danelectro U2 is a dual-pickup hollow-bodied guitar from the company's original period of production. Its body is built on a poplar frame closed with hardboard on the front and back, which makes it light and gives the guitar a resonant, airy quality, while the two lipstick-tube single coils, mounted in the classic arrangement with a stacked tone control, deliver a bright and cutting sound. It was sold as an inexpensive instrument through catalogue retailers, and players have long valued it for clean, jangly parts and for a thin, wiry tone that suits rhythm playing.
