Fender Champ

The Fender Champ is a small valve practice amplifier Fender produced from the late 1940s into the 1980s. It is remembered for its extreme simplicity: a single control for volume in most versions, one small speaker and a low-powered valve circuit, so the whole amplifier amounts to a knob and a grille. Turned up, it distorts readily, and that quality is what has made it a favourite for recording, where its saturated sound can be captured at levels that suit a studio. Successive versions carried different cabinets and circuits, from the early tweed boxes to the later silver panel models.
