Fender Esquire

The Fender Esquire is the single-pickup version of the Telecaster, introduced at the end of the 1940s and sold alongside the two-pickup Broadcaster and Telecaster. With one pickup, two controls and a blade switch whose positions change the tone through different loading arrangements rather than selecting pickups, the Esquire is the simplest of the early Fender solid bodies, and some players hold that the single-pickup construction gives it a livelier, more direct sound than its two-pickup stablemate. Fender has reissued it in several periods, most recently as a Custom Shop and American Vintage model.
