Gibson EB-1
The Gibson EB-1 is a violin-shaped electric bass Gibson produced from the early 1950s, one of the first bass guitars of the modern kind. It has a solid body cut to the outline the company had used for its electric violin-shaped guitars, a single pickup and a telescopic end pin that lets the player stand the instrument on the floor like a double bass, which was intended to help players make the change from the upright instrument. It was not a commercial success and was replaced by conventionally shaped basses, though it is historically important as one of the earliest production electric basses.
