Gibson ES-165
The Gibson ES-165 is an archtop electric guitar built to the specification of the American jazz guitarist Herb Ellis. It follows the shape of the company's classic jazz archtops but carries a single humbucking pickup mounted at the neck, without the second pickup at the bridge found on most models, together with a simple volume and tone control and a floating or fixed bridge depending on the version. The arrangement suits the mellow, rounded tone used for chord melody and single-line jazz playing, and the instrument was produced as a signature model for Ellis.
