Gibson ES-5

The Gibson ES-5 is a hollow-body electric guitar introduced at the end of the 1940s. The best known version, the Switchmaster, carries three pickups, each with its own volume and tone control, and a rotary switch that allows them to be selected individually or in combination, which makes it unusually flexible for its period and gives it a range of sounds from bright and cutting to full and round. It is a large archtop with carved construction, and it was produced into the 1960s in several versions, remaining a distinctive instrument in Gibson's electric range.
