Gibson Modernistic series
The Gibson Modernistic series is the group of solid-body electric guitars Gibson introduced in 1958 as its attempt at a new, forward-looking design language: the Explorer, the Flying V and the Moderne. All three were built with angular, sharply pointed bodies in korina with two pickups, and all three sold badly, since the market of the period wanted conventional instruments, and the series was abandoned within a couple of years. The designs were revived when rock players of the late 1960s took to their shapes, and the Flying V and Explorer in particular became permanent parts of the catalogue.
