Gibson Ripper

The Gibson Ripper is an electric bass introduced in the early 1970s. It has a large, angular solid body, a bolt-on neck and a single humbucking pickup with a four-position rotary switch that selects different combinations of its coils and loading, producing a range of tones from thin and bright to thick and deep, and it was also offered with a second pickup. The instrument is associated with rock of the period and with players who wanted a distinctive sound and appearance rather than the conventional look of the company's older basses, and it is collected as one of Gibson's more imaginative bass designs.
