Ibanez Universe
The Ibanez Universe is the seven-string signature guitar designed with Steve Vai and introduced at the end of the 1980s. It takes the superstrat architecture of the company's JEM and adds a seventh string in the low register, together with a locking vibrato bridge, a pair of high-output humbucking pickups and elaborately inlaid fretboards with patterns such as the vine or the mirror design. The instrument was one of the first production seven-strings and is widely credited with helping establish extended-range guitars in rock and metal, and it has been produced in a number of versions.
