My Guitar Notes

Number One

Number One is the name Stevie Ray Vaughan used for the Fender Stratocaster that was his principal instrument. He acquired it in the early 1970s and it stayed with him for the rest of his career, its neck worn from years of playing and its electronics and hardware altered repeatedly over the decades as parts failed or were changed for preference. Its voice, a bright and forceful Stratocaster sound with a strong lower register, is heard on most of his recordings. The guitar is one of the most closely documented instruments in the blues, and the wear on it has become part of its character.
