Rickenbacker 4003
The Rickenbacker 4003 is the bass guitar that succeeded the 4001 in the company's range and remains in production. It keeps the bound, offset solid body, the neck-through construction and the two pickups with their full set of volume, tone and mix controls, but it was revised with a stronger neck and truss rod arrangement and a different pickup wiring, changes made to suit the heavier strings and lower tunings that players were using. Its tone is rich and ringing with a strong top end, and it is one of the few bass designs to have kept its character unchanged in the decades since its introduction.
