Roland GR-500
The Roland GR-500 is a guitar synthesizer system introduced at the end of the 1970s, the company's first production instrument of the kind. It consists of a controller guitar fitted with a divided pickup that senses each string separately, together with an external unit that converts the string signals into control voltages for its analogue synthesis section through a multi-core cable. It allowed a guitarist to produce synthesizer sounds from the instrument itself, and although the tracking was limited by later standards, it was an important step in the development of guitar synthesis.
