Roland MC-202

The Roland MC-202 is a compact synthesizer and sequencer introduced at the beginning of the 1980s. It combines the monophonic synthesis section of one of the company's small analogue instruments with a sequencer that can store and play back patterns entered from a keyboard or step by step, and its compact shape and the single gripping control surface made it a portable way to produce complete bass lines and single-note parts. Instruments of this kind were used in the electronic music of the period, and the MC-202 is prized today for its particular sound and for its place in the history of the groovebox.
