Roland MC-505
The Roland MC-505 is a groovebox introduced at the end of the 1990s. It contains a set of synthesised sounds and drum kits, a sequencer for recording patterns and full arrangements, controls including a set of knobs and sliders for shaping the sound while playing, and effects for processing it, and it uses a pattern-based method in which short repeated parts are built up into a piece. Instruments of this kind were central to the production of dance music in the period, allowing a complete track to be made without a studio or a computer.
