Roland SH-201

The Roland SH-201 is a synthesizer produced in the middle of the 2000s, reviving one of the company's historic model names for an instrument aimed at players who want direct control. It generates its sounds digitally while imitating analogue behaviour, and its panel of knobs and sliders lays out the sections of a synthesizer's signal path so that they can be adjusted without menus, together with a keyboard, an arpeggiator, effects and the ability to act as a controller for computer software. It was designed as a straightforward introduction to synthesis as much as a stage instrument.
