Roland SP-555

The Roland SP-555 is a sampler and phrase instrument from the middle of the 2000s, a larger model in the series that began with the company's earlier compact samplers. It records audio into its memory from microphones or other sources, assigns the results to velocity-sensitive pads, and allows them to be looped, pitched, filtered and processed with effects while performing, with a built-in microphone input and effects aimed specifically at vocal work, together with a sequencer. Instruments of this kind are used by producers and performers who work without a computer, particularly in hip hop and electronic music.
