Roland SP-808
The Roland SP-808 is a groove sampler introduced at the end of the 1990s. It records audio into memory and stores it on a removable disk, assigns passages to pads, and provides a sequencer, filters and effects so that loops and phrases can be triggered, manipulated and arranged into complete pieces, with the display of a waveform for editing the recorded material. Instruments of this kind, which combine sampling with a pattern-based sequencer, were used in the production of electronic and hip hop music, and they sit between the company's phrase samplers and its full workstations.
