The Black Strat
The Black Strat is the Fender Stratocaster that David Gilmour of Pink Floyd has used as his principal instrument for most of his career. He bought it in the late 1960s, and it was modified repeatedly over the following decades: the neck was replaced, the pickups changed, a switch was added for extra combinations and the bridge arranged to his preference, so that the guitar records the history of a working instrument rather than a single specification. Its sound is heard throughout the band's records from the beginning of the 1970s onwards, and the guitar is one of the most recognisable in rock.
