The STRAT

The STRAT is the name Fender used for a redesigned Stratocaster sold in the middle of the 1980s. It departs from the traditional instrument in several respects: a bridge assembly of a different design that loads the strings from the rear, an altered control layout, a set of pickups of the period's specification and a choice of finishes and hardware that separated it from the older models. It was produced for only a short time, one of several attempts to modernise the design during that decade, and it is collected now as an example of those experiments.
